Purchased this unit 4 months ago and was very pleased with it: multi-region, great design, easy to use, large storage capacity.
In the last 6 weeks the unit has gone from occasionally rejecting dvd-r/rws, to rejecting all blank dvds (of many varieties), to the point where it cannot even read pre-recorded dvds (and makes a horrible noise when doing so). While the hard drive still works a system error also occurs every few days.
Have contacted Samsung, who were not helpful in the slightest. After a good start this product has become very disappointing.
Other buyers beware that although a great unit, its longevity is dubious. At £200+ buyers should expect more.

A superb piece of technology, huge storage capacity and it does everything it says it does!! I have always been fond of Samsung and being able to watch and record at the same time, multi region too is just superb value for money.

Yes, this is a fantastic piece of kit.
However, beware those of us who have an analog mind in a digital world.
In UK I run the operations of a large japanese toy company and I would have fired whoever wrote the instruction manual. It's crap.
The initial set-up details are fine, but when you start to record, where are the instuctions on on how to finalase the disc?
There are 121 pages of geek rubbish in the instruction manual when 99% of us want: (a)plug the thing in (b)stick in the right disc (c)which button to push to record (c) how to finalise.
If anyone at Samsung (who are impossible to contact by e-mail) reads this, feel free to contact me at dorrityr@bandai.co.uk.
For a fee, I will rewrite your instruction manual so that people whose first language is english will understand it.

I recently purchased this and have to say that it is a fantastic piece of kit. I can't compare it with any other DVD HDD recorder as it is my first BUT it is very easy to use, it's a huge upgrade from any form of VHS, it's been faultlessly reliable (so far) and frankly I love it. If you're seriously looking at a DVD with HDD get the biggest HDD you can. For the price (incidently it's worth shopping around) the Samsung does a brilliant job. I love the fact I can record hours of stuff without ever needing to burn it to DVD unless I want to. Yes you can buy a cheapo DVD recorder with built on Freeview etc etc BUT I'd recommend saving some extra cash to get one with the biggest HDD possible.
