5 Reviews for Funai DR-B2737 DVD Recorder - Silver
some good some bad - 18 May 2006

I bought mine from Maplin.Points I like is that it can record 6 hours with reasonable quality. Most of the time it is ok for recording.
However I missed some tv programmes as after 6 hours of recording I found out that it did not record and gave disk error. I cannot trust it to record a programme so I record on a vhs recorder just to be safe which is not ideal. For playback it is not great to watch different format dvd's. Some disks I can watch on my son's playstation will not play on this. Start up is slow, search is slow.
I also had to manually put the time in, which is annoying as all other gadgets automatically adjust their time.
I would have given less than 3 stars due to its unreliability except that I recorded quite a few programmes and it was cheap.
Excellent DVD recorder - 13 Jan 2006

I bought one of these a few months ago, and have not had any problems with it at all. It is fairly easy to use, although I had to look up some things in the manual. Manual is helpful. It can record from my freeview box with no problems or from an analog TV signal. The quality of playback of recorded DVDs and commercial DVDs is excellent, with a stereo sound output as well which I connect to my hifi for an overall good experience for watching TV. It works only with DVD-R and DVD-RW for recording, but these are available quite cheaply in bulk. I use Datawrite 4x DVD-R discs and have not had a single disc that was not recorded properly.
After you finish your recordings, you can rename them and then finalise the disc, which creates a DVD video disc playable in any DVD player.

Very good value. I bought this item on the strength of the reviews listed below. No problems yet at any rate. It came in very sound packaging and was compatible with TV, Freeview box, and VCR and even I found it easy to operate. One plus point is that it records DVD-RW as well as DVD-R
Worth the money! - 29 Nov 2005

After many weeks searching the net for a decent well priced dvd recorder I finally found this beauty a couple of days ago. I know it's early days, but things are looking good! It's a lovely looking machine with many great features. It has a fan built onto the back of the machine which keeps it running cool. This is an excellent feature as I have read that certain machines do have a tendency to get recording break up on discs because of the heat generated. The fan noice is fairly quiet(sounds just as quiet as a Playstation 2) when the machine is on. The recordings are top notch! Infact recording on SP instead Of the higher quality XP is the best! Recorded a video straight over to dvd and the quality is superb. One great feature of the machine is you can view what the picture quality will look like before recording by using a special button on the remote. The only down side to this machine is probably the fact that it would be a little difficult for dvd player/recorder novices to use as the instructions are a little complicated. Overall I don't know to much about Funai (maybe owned by a bigger company and are said to be popular in the usa) but you can't really go wrong for the price.
A little gem. - 24 Oct 2005

I purchased mine from Maplins and it was delivered in 24 hours in more than enough packaging to fully protect it. I went for DVD- as I have been using these for over a year on my computer and they work with my brothers system in Australia.
Straight from the box there were no difficulties and I found the instructions and remote very easy to follow-far better than the expensive Home Cinema system that I have in the lounge.
I did not read the instructions fully and did not realise the need to finalise discs to enable them to run on another DVD/Computer. A BIG plus was a UK telephone number on the instuctions, not premium rate, and a quick call resolved my difficulty.
All in all, I have found this an excellent intoduction to DVD recording and after 4 weeks am delighted with the performance.
